Monk's Cap Ewer in Ruby
Red Glaze
Ming Dynasty
(A.D. 1368-1644)
Overall height 19.2cm
Depth 16.6cm
Circumference of belly
43.5cm
This ewer is so named
for the way its mouth
resembles a monk's cap.
The crooked handle is
decorated with a cloud in
the shape of a "ju-i" scepter.
The tall neck is slightly
tapered, the belly is
distended and round, and
the flat base has a low
ring foot.
